Winning bids are tax deductible donations and receipts will be furnished at the end of 2009.

New Site Design - Alpha Version Preveiw

Well she isn't ready for full production yet, but we are excited about how the new site layout is coming along and wanted to share it with you. Bear in mind this is a work in progress & code is not finalized so not all things are working yet. The drop down menus are definitely going to be changed some and ignore the javascript error you may get as I'm working on eliminating that.

Some other great changes include an improved photo gallery section with thumbnails that are twice the size of the old ones (demostrated here, but not to scale). There will be others, we can't wait to share them all with you!

New site layout for RodandPiston.com

It's been a few years since we changed things up, so I've been working on a new layout for the site for the past few weeks. The new layout will have a different flyout menu at the top instead of on the left side giving us a little more space for content. So far this is a rough draft of one of the many designs I'm liking the most. Any feedback/constructive criticism is appreciated.

Sunday July 11, 2009 will mark the seventh running of the RodandPiston.com Super Cruise. This year we will be auctioning off the rights to have your car be one of the two featured vehicles on the event logo (Example shown below).This logo will be featured on dash plaques given to event participants and prominently featured on RodandPiston.com and in all advertising campaigns and flyers. It will also be featured on any event mechandise we choose to sell for the event. The 2 highest bidders will purchase the right to have their vehicle featured. The auction will close on Wednesday February 4, 2009 at 8pm. Bids must be made in increments of $10 or more and be greater than one of the current highest bidders. Payment from the winners must be made to RodandPiston.com within 10 days of the end of the auction or bidder forfeits their spot and it falls to the next highest bidder.

Well if you see my wife running around with her nose pierced it's (Joe's fault). She claimed if I ran another car show she was going to do it cause she knows I don't want her to as much as she wanted me to stop running car shows.

Anyway bad news for me is good news for you, looks like we are going to continue the RodandPiston.com Super Cruise this year. The event will be at Fisherman's Park again, on 7/12/2009, with a few notable changes (NO AWARDS, low entrance fee $5, and NO RAIN)

Most the rest is staying the same, we'll have a logo auction (details posted soon), dash plaques, food and auto vendors, music, etc.....

Well we never could have imagined the kind of success we'd have these last several years. I remember being amazed when we hit 1 or 2 million and now that seems so inconsequential. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the web site with your pictures and your forum posts and those that have passed the word on about us to your family and friends. Nov 12 (4pm) - 13 (9am) Server Outage

Had to move our server to a new rack yesterday and change IP's Addresses. While I had hoped this would be a relatively short outage, unfortunately I missed the removal of the old Gateway address last night before I went home from the ISP. This morning I stopped in and corrected the problem and so far so good everything seems to be up and working well again. If you notice any problems email us at site@rodandpiston.com as they may indicate a problem I have to correct because of our new IP.

RodandPiston.com Database Woes - No More

Nov 9th Update:
As of about 1pm today, I completed the recovery of our oracle database and re-enabled all the dependent features of RodandPiston.com. Everything is now all good again.

Nov 8th:
Well Last Friday (Nov 7, 2008) a unexpected power outage took out our Oracle Database. I was not able to recover the corrupted files so I uninstalled Oracle and am going to do a clean install of it and then load the data back in from our daily backups of the Oracle Tables. In the short term certain portions of the web site had to be disabled. If all goes as planned we should be back up to running 100% again sometime today.

2008 SEMA Show Recap - Photos & Video

Well the downturn in the economy has definitely been felt in the automotive Industry. We were at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas Last week for the 5th year in a row and the number of Exhibitors and participants was less then years past, but it continues to be the biggest automotive event in the US. We spoke with the project director for the new Camaros and also saw several of them including a race car concept amongst several others. Production of the production version is ramping up we are told. The usual automotive celebrities were there again, as well as a few others like wrestling's Goldberg. The "Booth Babes" did not dissapoint again this year as well.
